In order to raise the level of competitiveness of the Universidad Tecnológica El Retoño de Aguascalientes, Evox installed advanced telepresence systems, using technological devices and services that allow a global education without borders.
The Technological University El Retoño de Aguascalientes (UTR), represents the first institution of higher education in Mexico with the precious BIS seal, that is, Bilingual, International and Sustainable, in which classes and educational content are taught 100% in the English language.
With Cisco-branded high-quality video conferencing technology, now University students have the opportunity to take distance classes and exchange knowledge with students and academics from the United States and Canada, among other countries.
Among its many activities, the UTR has established agreements with educational centers in these countries, so that students can participate in academic exchange programs.
The main function of the videoconferencing solution is that students take classes with teachers from other countries and can exchange knowledge with students from different latitudes.
The equipment installed in the UTR consists of two frontal screens in which the assistants can see and listen to the live lecture of a professor, which can be hundreds or thousands of kilometers away; and a rear one, in which he sees and hears his interlocutors.
Another system is the SX80, composed of three cameras, two of which have intelligent tracking for motion and voice detection, so they automatically focus on the student when they ask a question or make a comment; the third camera performs the same functions, but focusing on the exhibitor.
The other system is in the library. It is a Cisco Webex Board model, which consists of a 55-inch touch screen LED screen and a camera whose field of view is 83 degrees. This equipment allows videoconferences with exchange students at the university and also take distance classes or courses. The display has wheels and can be easily scrolled through the entire library. There is also the option of a digital blackboard to draw and make annotations on the content that is exposed.
Evox carried out the integral implementation of the systems and the training of technicians and teachers for the correct use of the devices, in addition to 24-hour technical support, all year round.
It is a collaboration technology whose content is stored in the cloud and can be downloaded from anywhere. “Telepresence technology changes lives because it allows people to acquire knowledge from a distance, without the need to travel. Education and technology transform a society for the better ”, assured Javier Priego, CEO of Evox, from the SX80 system. “We share the vision that UTR has about new technologies, since innovation is an engine for development.”
Christian Sánchez Tinajera, student of the Information and Communication Technologies career at the UTR, commented: “We were very surprised to see how the cameras could capture our voice in the classroom, focus and show our image on the screens; and at the same time interact in real time with other people who are in another city ”.
Mireya Guadalupe Flores, also a student, said: “We had a videoconference with students from another university and it was very nice to see how the cameras followed us and focused on us when we asked a question; the images were very sharp and the audio sounded very good. “
For Master Elva Patricia Saracho Martínez, Rector of the El Retoño Technological University, we are experiencing a digital revolution. “It is important that educational institutions and society join it. With the help of Evox, UTR provides its students with the most advanced digital tools to obtain knowledge from different countries, thanks to telepresence, which puts us in contact with the whole world at the push of a button. We are strongly committed to technological innovation because it allows us to compete with international markets ”, concluded the Rector.
